Monarch and the Press

The Monarch elections were held last weekend. It wasn't a presidential election, but at the moment, its just as important. It was extremely important that the right person was elected, because now is the time we need a strong leader to lead us to a better future, and hopefully Kyle will do just that.

That's right, Kyle won. It was a close race, but in the end, Garion couldn't prove himself as a greater leader. If you really looked at the ideals behind the two candidates, it was truly liberal versus a Conservative. And that makes the out come so much surprising.

On better news, We made it in the TBT, and St. Pete Times.

Bonzai for Fun and Games!

In general, its a better article then the Trib's (Linked Here), and the Times has a far greater reader and subscriber base. Plus its getting published in the TBT, which is the number one news paper in the Tampa due to the fact that it's free.

Hopefully we'll see new recruits at the park, and become a far larger family.

Electioning the Future.

Next week, Tetsu Bonzai will go to the park, and Elect a new Leader.
A task that seems impossible if you look at the history of our past Daimyos, and Shoguns.

Before I post the Three people who are running, I can only implore that you look at the candidates past decisions, their point of view of the topics at hand, and the way they play Amtgard. Don't vote for the person who you like the most, but for the person who think will make a difference for the next year to come.

Tomas Stone, the under dog...
Garion Gazell, the Hopeful Idealist...
And Kyle, The struggling leader...

Good Luck, and I hope for the best.

A Tribunal of Sorts

Sunday was a gathering of the past and future of our small clan. It made me happy to see people from the good ole' days, as well as many new people that will continue to join us. There was even two special guests, a few reporters from two warring newspapers.
The Trib article was already released, and my personal faviorte line is
"Marotta said he's keenly aware of the nerd label attached to Amtgard players, and he doesn't care. "As long as I'm having fun, I don't care what people think," he said, shrugging."
The TBT piece should be out shortly as well.

The forum will be back up starting today, sorry for the inconvenience, but it had to be done. Cleaning it up for the new influx of member was necessary. Yes, it will be open to the public, if you don't like some who joined, just message one of the mods, and we'll take care of it.
Or you could make your own forum, with an updated (you know your bored when you play this) version of the survivor game.

Now that metrocon is good and over with, many have been asking "Whats the next big event?" (For me personally its necronomicon cause im working oin this awesome steampunk cosplay)
Well, I'm working with Brooksville and Kyle to put togeather a new camping trip, we're also looking into a new convention in November.

I'll leave you with the links to the amazing article by Richard Shopes, and the photos that were taken.

How to survive Metrocon

No real Tetsu Update today, just some geeking out of sorts.
(Yes the forums are down, I'm making huge improvements for the flood after metrocon)

So for all of you newbs going to metrocon for the first time, prepare to be blown away with excitement. I've decided to write stories about all of my CON adventures in my actual blog Ideal Hub, so I decided to provide a list of survival tips.

Stay Away From Ferries
Furrier are trouble, allot of trouble. Even if they are a cute little girl with cat ears and a tail protruding from her ass crack connecting to her crotchless panties. The ones who dress up are really bad, but at least you know who they are, the one you have to watch out for are the ones who are awesome, and seem normal, until you get back to her hotel room, and she strips naked, takes two shots of Yager, then opens her lap top to some half hentai half furry porn involving a fox and a squid. It just not cool.

Get Use To Losing
You will always lose. No matter if its The Game, or some quick game of Smash, there is someone who is better then you, and will make you lose. Hell you might even have a trophy about how you danced your way to victory at a DDR tourney, but some Asian will get up on those lighted arrows and do the whole song backwards scoring a AA, while you had to stop midway to take a breather.

Know Your Panels
I cant even start to tell you about how many times I went to a panel, and by ten minuets I wish I hadn't. When your Friend goes hey, the anime improve panel looks fun, you should then look at the Con Book, and see how long it is. The fuck if I'm going to sit in a shitty panel of people trying to be funny, and failing at it for three hours. I'd rather watch chibi gundams and how to draw them having sex, at least I could get a stiff to robo on robo action.

Always Carry the Con Book
That large booklet with the maps and the info on the crazy shit happening will come in handy, especial if you don't know what yaoi is, and you follow a group of hot Asian school girls into a hardcore panel of yaoi vids. Hell you might be turned on by the little yaoi boys that look like girls with out the boobs. I know all of the school girls were.

Sleep
You will need allot of sleep, and the fuck if I'm going to do It at night. The best time to put in a few Zzz's are during some random video, in some random video room, in the back. Make sure its not a popular anime, cause those video rooms will be hotter then hell, and make sure your in the corner of the room with sunglasses, people will leave you alone if your by yourself with sunglasses in side watching a movie. You seem like a creep, but at least you'll have enough energy for the nights events. Also if you can't sleep, just save it for Sunday, nothing happens on Sundays except for the sales in the dealers room, that's what I do. Also if you can make friends with a energy drink selling pot head named Bawlz Kid, do it, you'll never be happier.

If You Want Some Action, Dance
If you have your eyes on some cute anime chick, chances are she is at one of the thirty dances, maybe even the anime dance, or the more formal masquerade,, what ever it is she will be there, and chances are shes looking for you. if you want some slutty chick who probably hates anime, and is on four drugs just so she can taste the music, go to the rave, trust me.

Set up a Meet up Spot
You will get lost, you will get lost, YOU WILL GET LOST. Set up some point where all of your friend will meet up, just in case. Unless you have cell phones, then its fine... I guess, but trust me, you'll get lost, and find your self in some yaoi furry panel, and that's the worst thing that would ever happen to you.

Don't Buy Stuff
I know that sword the size of a rather large person is cool, but why would you wanna carry around a sword you cant ever bring out. Don't buy shit unless you want to be burdened by the heaviness of real life, and the shitty shitty people that will follow you around.

July 27th

I'm being forced to actually start posting things instead of just editing...so here goes my first attempt.

The FIRST Sunday AFTER Metrocon(hopefullly somehow the caps will help prevent the confusion of dates that happened with the Althing), we are going to have a feast with all of Caleb's Brooksville groups. The idea behind this is to ensure a good turn out for the Metrocon recruits. It's also so we will have a good number of people out on the field just in case Jared does decide to attack us then. Caleb also sees it as a morale booster and I think it will be a good for us to get back in the loop with his groups so we have other people to fight every once in a while.

The Allsay Notes

Confusion takes it toll Sunday, and the Allsay was held a little early. So early that I wasn't there for it (I guess I can't take a day off ever, cause I will miss something important on the one day I decide to relax on the beach). That said, my good buddy Tom aka Stark, wrote up a nice synopsis of everything we have been working on over the last month.

Bases will be used in most, if not all, class games from this point on. At base, you can mend items in a 100 count. (For armor one point at a time) but your base can be entered and attacked by the opposing team.

Nirvana Counts will, from this point on, during most games be a 180 count. Special battles, of cours,e may not use this standard count. But this will be the standard.

(The word Archer is used not as the class, but as a term for anyone that uses a bow)

Archery: From this point forward, because of the fact that the archers are fairly static, the archers will form a "group" that will deal with archery.

As per a ruling from several weeks ago, if you break an arrow you will pay for it, and a new arrow. This was a group vote and about 90% agreed. If you have an issue with this, bring it up at the Althing.

The archers will collect money to buy arrows and to make them battle ready. This will no longer involve group money. Also, all arrows will be considered "community items" within the group of archers. Meaning any archer may use any arrow. In that sense, any archer now "loses" his personal arrows, so that archer will be reimbursed with credit from the group fund.

Meaning we will attach a monetary value to the arrows he "donates" to the group. And that will be logged by (Treasurer? Prime Minister?). This credit can be used to "pay" for dues for voting, or for broken arrows; basically, anything that would require a monetary exchange. This will only count toward current arrows donated. Afterward the arrows will be required to play archer.

If you want to be an archer you will have to donate either money, materials, or time to the archery group. The group itself will determine how much of each to be fair, but any archer must donate an equal amount.

For people who occasionally use archery, like Assassins or even just people who want to "give it a try" they must be "sponsored" by an existing archer. In affect, if they break or lose an arrow, their sponsor must replace it. The sponsor/new archer may personally decide reimbursement, but in the technical sense, only the sponsor needs to pay the group and will not be allowed to use archery until the debt is payed.

You may only touch arrows if you have a legitimate reason to. For example you may if you are an archer or bringing them to your archer. But you may NOT take the arrows and hide them, they only way you can move arrows, aside from taking them to an archer is as such:

1. You are moving them out of a dangerous place. For example, they are lying scattered in an area that will be seeing a lot of foot traffic that may break the arrows. At this point you can remove them (reasonably guys no two mile walk to put them somewhere safely) from the area.

2. You may, even if you don't have an archer on your team, take the arrows and move them to your base. Bases may be entered by the opposing team. So at that point they can take the arrows back.

Arrows, personal magic balls, personal throwing weapons, and personal throwing rocks, will all be treated as the blue quoted rule in archery. You may take them to your base, but you may not use personal weapons without permission. Javelins, though also throw-able, should be treated as normal personals, and can only be moved to "get them out of the way".

From this point forward, if you want to have your weapon considered personal, (that means you made or paid for it and you don't want people touching it without your permission) then you must make it clearly marked as yours. Meaning, if it looks like a standard boffer then it might be picked up by another player and you cannot complain about them using it. You can also, not take it back while it's being used unless for safety reasons. This goes for all things considered personal.

You may use any style or idea to make an item personal as long as it is clear. For example, Carlos has velcro on his throwing weapons; they are clearly his. A simple writing your name in sharpie will also work.

Tides of Change, Tide of War

Nothing new in the world of Tetsu Bonzai...
Oh wait, lots of things new!

Allot of rulebook ambiguities have been worked out by the board of Directors, in including a much argued arrow ruling.

All projectiles are now personal (which means it they can only be used by their respective owners, unless given permission by the owner)

We will also now have permanent bases established, as well as an area to 'hoard' projectiles away from the other team.

There will be an Allsay for all members of Tetsu Bonzai, as well as our three other sister groups, everyone can attend, and for this one time, no dues are needed in order to vote. The First Official Allsay will be moderated by me, and will allow all issues to be discussed.

Kyle will remain Shogun/Monarch for his remaining month, under specific condition.
But with this means we will have Elections in a month! Anny one who is willing to go though to trails and tribulations of running for monarch, pleas contact Me, or Vaughn, or Tom on the boards.

The Boards are now open to the public for everyone to join. You do need a valid email address, but that's not hard with sites like Mintemail online.

I am trying to organize a celebratory camping trip for after the election, so all four groups can come together for party, drink, and Tower Battle.

Half of Vigor, Full of Standards

There is a tide of change coming...
I can feel it, others can too.

The thing is, I've been playing this game way to long to understand when something big is gonna happen. Its the same for all of Itsukaten. The 'important' announcements, the whispers behind our backs, the talks off to the side. We all know something is up, but we don't know what it is exactly. We do know something though, Jared's name has been popping up allot.

Oh no. Not Jared.

If I had a penny for every time Jared's name came up in good context, I would have 3 cents, from Ben Pace. I'm not saying that Jared is a bad thing, its just that name only comes around when something that disrupts the peace time happens.

Urgh...

Why can't we get along...

Oh and the master classes are coming along good.

QUEST! LAME!

Let me start by saying I was actually excited for this quest, but deep down inside I knew, Oh I knew that it was going to be a stand around and le the Monsters and Garion kill us game.

Deep down, every battle game is a let Garion kill us game.

So knowing this I kinda forced my way into being a monster. I did this for two reasons, one, I wanted to have fun, and two, I really wanted to use imolation.

I don't know about anyone else, but I had fun, sacrificing victims was awsome, I also took a long, long nap in the volcano.

But the things that I did notice were pretty bad. One, The effect use of feeblemind right out side the forest.

Feeblemind was way, way too big, and that was a problem, cause people were using it to win.

Also, no one was playing by the rules. Sue I'll admit it, I had a few too many deaths, but god damn, when I walking to Jeff to ask him a question about his new phone, don't run up and hit me in the back. Its pretty damn obvious that I'm on hold when I have no weapon in my hand walking to someone who (gasp) also has no weapon in their hand, but a cell phone instead.

I sure as hell didn't take that death.

It was our first Quest, but it really wasn't a quest, I'm pretty sure that quests have goals, and because it didn't have a goal, it was pretty much a large failure.

The Art of Standing Around

The other day, something came over me, something so horrid it only happens once in a blue moon...

For those who don't know me that well, I'm a calm, easy going guy, but sometimes something in me snaps, and Zooma comes out. Okay, sure Zooma is my nickname, but Zooma is also a different side of my personality, its my competitive side. The side of me that will never back down, will never stop fighting, the side will will destroy everything, until I'm dead myself.

Sure playing at Tetsu is all good fun, but its not like the good ole' days. The days at Al Lopez...

Jared, Jared, Jared. The single most flawed, but helpful thing he had taught us at Red Dawn, was 'Our job is not to live, our job is to die'. There are many things wrong with this statement, but a few things right. Yah, we want to stay alive in combat, but what shouldn't happen is that we pussy out of fights in order to stay alive. We're not all assassins, we shouldn't run away from fights. (Not saying assassins are gay, but...)
At Red Dawn, we always faught to our greatest ability, we never backed down, and we always prevailed. All because we had the stigma of death in our heads, we realized it didn't matter if we died, there will always be other games, what really mattered was the fact that we died knowing we did everything we could of for the better of our team.
I don't see this at Tetsu, I see allot of standing, and waiting, letting the thirty archers do all of the work. All because we don't have a Jared telling us its okay to die. Not saying we Jared himself, just saying we need someone to reassure us that it is okay to go all out.

So it happened, and everything died...

So there I am, doing nothing on the bridge, my team doing nothing behind me, and the other team doing nothing in front of me. And I snapped. That wasn't the way it was suppose to happen, when did Amtgard become an archer game? So Zooma came out. I killed people, I broke shields, I destroyed. Just like the good ole' days...

Lopez, I miss you...
But soon we shall return...

Another new beginning....

As of last Sunday, quite a few things have changed here in our much beloved park. First off, congratulations to the newly appointed daimyo Mifune Tamakins, and also to Mike, our new prime minister! As you all know, our former daimyo, now Shogun, Toshiro Mifune has left us to start new clans and help build the numbers of our groups. Second, our fighting company has been re-christened Tetsu Bonsai, meaning "Iron Tree Branch"…a name that seems to suit us quite well!

Ditching is a thing of the past as classes, armor, and even magic have taken on a new importance in our play. This revolution has taken hold so well that this writer thinks that the prospect of a simple ditch just might fail to excite any of us anymore. All this has made even the month of December seem like so long ago for us. So much has changed, even a knight of the Kingdom of Neverwinter is often seen on our fields, and welcomed for his sage advice on swords and swordsmanship. It's true, we've become a completely different animal from what we used to be, and that, my friends, is not a bad thing at all. Evolution had to happen in order for our group to survive in Amtgard. What we were before was not Amtgard, and it should not be missed.

Speaking of class, wow, what a difference it makes! Battle games are a whole new level of play that has just opened up to us, and you all should be proud, damn proud that you all are the first clan within the newly appointed empire to go fully class. Other clans haven't even begun to scratch the surface of what we've already accomplished. We're off to a great start, and who knows what 2008 will bring for us. I hope you all will be there, you know I will! BELIVE IT!

(I hate Naruto, but I had to do it to piss off Tex, I want to see if he reads it.)
